Fatiha Rachedi to guide GEN Algeria to strengthen international connections and implement new programs, initiatives
WASHINGTON, DC – The Global Entrepreneurship Network has appointed Fatiha Rachedi as acting managing director of GEN Algeria. In this role, Rachedi is responsible for expanding collaboration among the country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem leaders and connecting them to their counterparts in more than 170 countries.
“GEN Algeria works for a powerful, dynamic and innovative ecosystem that allows entrepreneurs to grow and prosper by interacting with different actors, including investors, researchers, policymakers,” said Rachedi.
She said the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Algeria is gradually forming, and is reinforced by an “impressive entrepreneurial movement and favored by the celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week – which has become a must-attend event” in the country.
At the global level, GEN operates in more than 170 countries. It fuels healthier start and scale ecosystems by fostering deeper cross-border collaboration and initiatives that engage entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers and entrepreneurship support organizations.
GEN Algeria aims to strengthen the ecosystem by focusing on three main priorities.
- Strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem with key stakeholders in the country. As part of the Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Innovation Program, GEN Algeria is setting up in 16 wilayas – in partnership with Startup Experience – a training program to support 1,200 students interested in entrepreneurship, with the aim to create 40 startups. This endeavor hopes to inform and propose to public authorities the necessity of entrepreneurship and the importance of universities in the startup ecosystem.
- Create tools that promote the growth of women’s businesses through the Women Entrepreneurship Program. WEP is a training and coaching program for women entrepreneurs, in partnership with UNIDO, to help them better understand the growth of their businesses. GEN Algeria is also setting up Nissa Business Angel, a first for Algeria.
- Engage media as key stakeholders in the country to promote entrepreneurship through the Media Entrepreneurship Program. GEN Algeria believes that media plays a key role in elevating the role of entrepreneurs in society, and has hosted several roundtable discussion on the topic. GEN Algeria is working to create a strategic partnership with a major press group to make this issue a priority.
