Hands-on Workshop on the Protection of Industrial Property

“The World of Patents”

Supervised by the outstanding Professor Maysoum Meriem

As part of the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week and in an effort to promote the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the National Higher School of Journalism and Communication Sciences Mohamed Yazid, the Technology and Innovation Support Center (CATI), under the supervision of the Center’s Director Professor Shammami Amina, organized an in-depth practical workshop on the protection of industrial property and the world of patents, with the participation of 45 students.

The workshop was delivered by the expert Professor Maysoum Meriem, who distinguished herself through her strong academic background and practical experience in simplifying patent concepts and protection mechanisms.

Workshop Objectives

Introduce students to the fundamentals of protecting industrial property, especially patents.

Enable them to understand the legal framework of patents according to Law 08-00 on Industrial Property.

Train them to develop a protectable idea and assess its novelty and innovative value.

Teach them the correct steps for drafting a patent application in compliance with required standards.

Strengthen students’ ability to write claims (les revendications), which represent the most important part of a patent file.

1. Introduction to Industrial Property

The difference between trademarks, patents, and industrial designs.

The importance of patents in protecting innovation.


2. Law 08-00 Regulating Industrial Property

Explanation of the legal conditions for patentability: novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability.

The inventor’s rights and obligations.


3. How to Generate a Protectable Idea

Innovative thinking methodology.

How to distinguish between an ordinary idea and a patentable idea.


4. Practical Session

Training students on drafting a patent application form.

Writing claims in a systematic way that protects the core of the innovation.

Reviewing application samples and discussing common mistakes.

About the Trainer: Professor Maysoum Meriem
