DHAKA, BANGLADESH (January 23, 2019) – As part of Daffodil International University’s 17th Founding Anniversary celebration, Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network in the United States, will deliver the keynote address – focusing on entrepreneurship and mobilizing youth to promote economic development.

Foundation Day is a daylong celebration at Daffodil’s permanent campus in Ashulia, Bangladesh outside of the nation’s capital, Dhaka. For the thousands of students, faculty and community members who will attend, the interactive program includes campus, national and international speakers.

The university’s Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a proud partner of the Foundation Day initiative and the university’s work in building a national ecosystem to support its entrepreneurs. As part of this work, and coinciding with the anniversary celebration, Dr. Sabur Khan, the chairman of the university and Daffodil Family, has been a key figure in efforts to establish the Global Entrepreneurship Network’s country affiliate in Bangladesh.

During Ortmans’ visit, he will present his keynote speech and participate in a roundtable discussion titled “Connecting Bangladesh to the Global Entrepreneurship Ecosystem.” Those in attendance of the roundtable represent all aspects of the entrepreneurial ecosystem, including investors, venture capitalists, corporations, founders and policymakers.

Daffodil International University has been engaged with GEN initiatives for years – having organized and hosted multiple Global Entrepreneurship Week events – educating students about entrepreneurship resources in the community and raising awareness about the potential for entrepreneurship as a viable career pathway. In addition, the university’s innovation and entrepreneurship department is an organizer of Startup Huddle Dhaka – which is a free monthly program to educate, engage and connect entrepreneurs – as well as a member of the Global Entrepreneurship Research Network that supports programs that apply findings, provide data or formally engage in research projects.

Ortmans is founder and president of GEN, an organization that provides a platform of programs and initiatives to help new firms start and scale within one global entrepreneurial ecosystem. GEN is headquartered in Washington, DC, but operates in 170 countries where it works to foster healthier local ecosystems to help entrepreneurs unleash their ideas and turn them into promising new ventures – creating jobs, unearthing innovations for society and strengthening economic stability around the world.
