The Global Entrepreneurship Network announced that Bruno Delepierre has joined the organization as its new Managing Director for GEN Belgium effective March 1, 2021.

Delepierre will lead GEN Belgium’s work with employer organizations, regional and national policymakers and universities in enhancing the national entrepreneurial ecosystem in support of Belgian entrepreneurs. He will share local best practices globally as well as bring back new ideas to Belgium.

"Throughout my career, I have been at the intersection of entrepreneurship, policy and innovation," said Delepierre. "Being able to take up the role of managing director and build on the foundation already in place is both an honor and an exciting challenge."

Delepierre has served on the European Innovation Council and also as a talent scout for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is a serial entrepreneur who has founded several companies, including Happonomy, a research organization that aims to develop knowledge and solutions for individuals, organizations and policymakers to work and live more sustainably.

"Startups can flourish in all parts of the world, not just well-established tech hubs like Silicon Valley,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of the Global Entrepreneurship Network. "Bruno Delepierre is an experienced entrepreneur who will help reboot the Belgian startup ecosystem following this global pandemic and help regenerate growth."

Delepierre earned a double Masters Degree in Management, Marketing and Consumer Behavior as well as in International Business. He is currently working towards his PhD in behavioral economics from KU Leuven.

He succeeds Freddy Nurski, the previous managing director who launched the national affiliate and has led it since its founding.

"GEN Belgium is now strongly anchored in Belgium with founding partners UCM, Unizo, UWE, VBO-FEB and Voka. It has developed strong ties with federal and regional administrations, as well as with eight universities," said Nurski. "I wish Bruno success in bringing GEN Belgium to the next level in supporting our national entrepreneurship ecosystem."
