Global Entrepreneurship Week USA has concluded, but events and activities inspired by the week are still taking place and making the news across the country. The GEW USA team will continue to feature these clips in our weekly roundup.

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) USA works to gather entrepreneurs across the country – bringing new audiences together and strengthening the connections of local ecosystems everywhere.

GEW 2021 took place in more than 180 countries with over 20,000 partners, 40,000 activities and 10 million people worldwide. Although Global Entrepreneurship Week has concluded, events and activities inspired by the week are still taking place and making the news across every continent. The GEW team will continue to share a weekly roundup of some of the amazing things that are happening in support of GEW on every continent.

Through the GEW Weekly Roundup, you will find a collection of 'global picks' that explore each of the four themes for this year's celebration: EducationEcosystemsPolicy and Inclusion. Below is a look at a handful of today's press coverage.

  • Ohio University hosts Global Entrepreneurship Week

    The Center for Entrepreneurship and TechGROWTH Ohio partnered to provide a week of activities on campus and online, November 8–12 for Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), the world's largest celebration of innovators, job creators, and entrepreneurs launching startups, bringing ideas to life, driving economic growth, and expanding human welfare.

  • Women’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator Partners with the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge to Maximize Women Entrepreneurship

    The Women’s Entrepreneurship Accelerator (WEA), a strategic multi-partnership convening five United Nations agencies and Mary Kay, Inc., in support of Global Entrepreneurship Week and Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, announced a partnership with WE Empower UN SDG challenge, a first-of-its-kind competition for women social entrepreneurs across the world.

  • Think Local; Act Global with GEW Idaho Community Organizer

    Boise Entrepreneur Week (BEW) coincided with this year's Global Entrepreneurship Week. Hear from Norris Krueger, GEW Community Organizer in Idaho on the week's celebration.

  • Artists and Entrepreneurship Show Puts Youth in the Spotlight

    The Kids Artists and Entrepreneur Show on Friday, Nov. 12, which was featured as a part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, worked to encourage students to start, grow and market their independent businesses. 

  • Six Companies Win Combined $43,500 During 2021 Bayou Pitch Competition
    (Biz New Orleans, New Orleans, LA)
    Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit, in partnership with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Nicholls State University, recently awarded six area small companies funds to develop and grow their business at the 2021 Bayou Pitch Competition. This annual event is held to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week.

  • City Of Fort Worth: Tarrant County's New Firms Added About 30,000 Jobs
    (Patch // Fort Worth, TX)
    Startup businesses created an estimated 30,000 jobs in Tarrant County in 2019, according to a new report that was released during Global Entrepreneurship Week and was commissioned by the University of North Texas Health Science Center.

  • Penn State’s New Innovation Hub in State College Aims to Spur Entrepreneurial Success and Economic Development

    Five years ago, Penn State opened Happy Valley LaunchBox as part of a burgeoning economic development effort to drive business creation and innovation among university students and community members. Since then, PSU has developed 21 LaunchBoxes and Innovation Hubs across Pennsylvania, assisting nearly 5,000 entrepreneurs, hosting events such as GEW, graduating nearly 500 from its startup accelerator programs and helping to create hundreds of jobs and internships.

  • KCSourceLink Launches ‘Buy Local’ Movement

    The “Buy Local” movement started in 2013 in Kansas City with KCSourceLink’s shop local directory and map as a part of a campaign during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Fast forward to 2021, and several local business owners and advocates are adding some extra firepower to the initiative through BuyKC.

  • Denton Startup Crawl Supports Local Creative Economy
    (North Texas Daily // Denton, TX)
    Stoke, a co-working meeting and office space, hosted its Denton Startup Crawl on Nov. 19, which featured 12 locations in honor of Global Entrepreneurship Week. During the crawl, entrepreneurs were brought to 12 businesses across Denton to learn about the town’s creative community.

  • Pitch Johnny Competition Showcases Student Entrepreneurs
    (St. John's University // Queens, NY)
    For the last five years, the Pitch Johnny competition has inspired pioneering and strategic thinking, as well as a healthy sense of competition among students. The finals for this year's competition were held on November 20 on the Queens, NY campus with students presenting both in person and online to a panel of judges consisting of faculty members and industry professionals.
