With Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2021 right around the corner, national hosts are working hard to bring campaigns to life in 200 countries. In the weeks leading up to GEW (Nov. 8-14), GEN will spotlight some of these campaigns to share how entrepreneurs are being inspired and empowered in different parts of the world.

GEN caught up with Marina Lita of GEN Moldova, the national host for Global Entrepreneurship Week in Moldova to learn about the activities planned across the country, the collaboration taking place to make it all possible, and goals for the 2021 campaign.

Marina Lita is the Vice President of GEN Moldova and the lead for GEW Moldova.

GEN: How is Moldova coming together to celebrate GEW?

Marina Lita, GEW Moldova: We are celebrating GEW 2021 throughout November. We are working with partners on inclusion, sustainability, building local bonds for Moldovan entrepreneurs and diaspora to local communities. We are also recruiting a diverse group of partners and stakeholders from 27 regions of the country, who will assist us in hosting some awesome events.

Our partners include Directorate of Education, Youth and Sport Chisinau, Academy of Economic StudiesGenerator HubDreamups, Cimislia and Stefan City Halls, Rayon Council of Ungheni and Drochia, Association of Natives from Stefan Voda, UNIVERSUL, Local Association of Tourism in Ungheni, Proentrance, among others.

More information on these events will be coming soon.

GEN: What key activities are taking place in Moldova during GEW?

Marina Lita, GEW Moldova: We are going to have a “Youth Entrepreneurial Engagement Movement” event to promote entrepreneurship education among our youth; a “Local Bond” event, with a mix of regional activities linking the Moldovan diaspora abroad with rural entrepreneurs for mentorship, training sessions, coaching and community development; an event for women entrepreneurs and an “Ecosystem Shifting During the Pandemic” event with students from the Academy of Economic Studies.

GEN: What are your goals for GEW 2021?

Marina Lita, GEW Moldova: Our goals for GEW Moldova are to link communities around the country. We are doing this by building strong entrepreneurial communities in rural areas, promoting entrepreneurship among young people, giving Moldovans from diaspora opportunities to invest money, time and knowledge, and promoting women’s entrepreneurship in rural areas.

GEN: Why is Global Entrepreneurship Week important for Moldova’s startup ecosystem?

Marina Lita, GEW Moldova: It's a way to collectively celebrate entrepreneurs and activists from different regions, areas and spheres – and also to revive the local and national economy, shaping a new future for the country and the people within it.

GEN: What do you want the world to know about your country's startup ecosystem? What trends, if any, are you noticing?

Marina Lita, GEW Moldova: There is a huge pool of talented young people and individuals with ICT skills as well as creatives and innovators within the vicinity of the EU market.
