Castries, St. Lucia – November 15, 2021 – SLUDTERA celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) from November 8-14 by hosting four events:

GEW is an international movement, powered by the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) with support from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, dedicated to making it possible for anyone, anywhere to start and scale a company.

“The closing of so many businesses and the loss of jobs brought on by COVID-19 has been a wake-up call for those of us in a position to help,” said Jonathan Ortmans, president of GEN. “This Global Entrepreneurship Week, we are celebrating some of the world’s most creative, innovative, and resilient citizens – and supporting them to become part of a better, more sustainable, and more equitable post-pandemic world.”

Each November, GEW celebrates and empowers millions of entrepreneurs in every country and community around the world – especially individuals who face barriers or who have never considered the idea of launching a startup. Globally, more than 10 million people take part in thousands of activities, competitions, and events that inspire them to act and give them the knowledge, experience, and connections they need to succeed.

“I am exhilarated that St. Lucia has taken the initiative to be part of GEW," said Mylica Amedee, Executive member of SLUDTERA. "GEW is a program dear to my heart being an entrepreneur myself. This is a platform where any entrepreneur, be it by themself or in collaboration, can show the world what we have to offer. In these trying times, I find that there are too many brilliant minds hiding away afraid to show the world what they have to offer. Be a part of this moment, you won't be connected for just one week but a lifetime.”

Cross-Caribbean Startup Huddle: St. Lucia & St. Kitts & Nevis

Cross-Caribbean Startup Huddle was an official activity of Global Entrepreneurship Week, an international movement to empower entrepreneurs and help make it possible for anyone, anywhere to start and scale their businesses. SLUDTERA, the umbrella of Start Up Huddle St. Lucia has crossed the waters and joined forces with St. Kitts and Nevis to broaden the spectrum. Under the theme #GEWEcosystems, on Wednesday, November 10, at 6 pm, attendees listened to presentations by Shevon Anatole SHEVY-Q out of St. Lucia, and  Akeima James with his dad Mr. Anthony Mills FS Solutions out of St. Kitts & Nevis where the audience could play their part in offering advice, providing feedback and also sharing resources and information in an effort to help these business ventures succeed.

The 3rd Annual Startup Huddle St. Lucia Awards

St. Lucia is the first island in the Western Hemisphere to launch and host a Startup Huddle chapter. SLUDTERA welcomed the opportunity to introduce this program to the entrepreneurial communities in St. Lucia, the wider Caribbean and in Latin America because there was a need to nurture entrepreneurs in being able to elevate their pitch and have people understand what they do and some of the challenges they have had in building their businesses. In recognising that it wouldn't be possible without the help of so many, under the theme #GEWEcosystems,SLUDTERA hosted their 3rd Annual Appreciation Awards ceremony during Global Entrepreneurship Week on Wednesday, November 10 at 8 pm. The awards honored past presenters, ambassadors, team members, partners and sponsors who have contributed to this initiative and the community at large.
