WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Global Entrepreneurship Network is excited to announce Ellen Bateman has joined the team as Director for U.S. Ecosystems, focusing on GEN’s efforts to help people across the United States and its territories unleash their ideas and turn them into promising new ventures from its Washington, D.C. headquarters.
In her new role, Bateman will work with partners and entrepreneurship ecosystem builders across the United States to strengthen U.S. networks and scale Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrations in all states and territories. GEW USA is a national movement to inspire more Americans from all walks of life to explore their potential to start and grow new businesses – providing new entrants to emerging and evolving startup ecosystems.
Bateman will also oversee the organization’s Ecosystem Connect initiative to connect emerging U.S. ecosystems with complementary counterparts in other areas of the world. Her first focal point is working to engage U.S. entrepreneurs in GEN’s support of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit – co-hosted by the governments of the Netherlands and the United States. She will also be leading the U.S. delegation to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress this April 15-18 in Bahrain.
Prior to joining the GEN team, Bateman worked for the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh’s Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. There, she worked on access to capital and technical assistance for entrepreneurs, as well as the city’s Inclusive Innovation Week, which seeks to raise awareness for inclusive and innovative spaces and programming in the city. She grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and studied at Rhodes College in Memphis before earning her Master of International Development from the University of Pittsburgh.
