What can we as a community do to help you?

1 Million Cups (1MC) is a free program designed to educate, engage and inspire entrepreneurs across the country by creating community-owned spaces where ideas are presented, and meaningful connections are formed. Through weekly meetings hosted by local volunteers, aspiring entrepreneurs can test, tweak, or simply validate their ideas with input from experienced business owners and others in their communities.

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation developed 1MC in 2012 to equip entrepreneurs with the tools and resources to break down barriers that stand in the way of starting and growing their businesses. Local communities work toward this goal by presenting an inclusive and supportive front door to their entrepreneurial ecosystems. Together, program participants act as:

  • Organizers – Committed volunteers who build communities at the local level. Our support is crucial to them, but ultimately, they know what will resonate with their communities best.

  • Presenters – Those who boldly share their business concepts, challenges, and successes with their local 1MC community in order to make connections and gain the support needed to accelerate their business plans.

  • Attendees – Community-minded individuals, business enthusiasts, and active entrepreneurs who serve as an audience for 1MC presenters each week, providing feedback that reflects their expertise or opinion.

This dynamic allows community members to truly understand how they can best support their local entrepreneurs and vice versa, which ultimately promotes the development of a more equitable and prosperous ecosystem.

Mr. Kauffman believed it was a fundamental right for anyone who had a big idea to be able to bring it to life, but full participation and support from the community is vital to the fulfillment of this mission.

If you aspire to bring your ideas to life or to uplift entrepreneurship in your community by supporting up-and-coming innovators, become a presenter or attendee in your local 1MC community.
