As Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Corporation, Ali is a key member of the international leadership team responsible for the company’s global strategy, particularly in emerging and high growth markets.As President of Microsoft Middle East & Africa (MEA), Ali leads Microsoft’s operations in an area that represents one of Microsoft’s fastest growing, dynamic markets, and certainly it’s most diverse. MEA’s two thousand team members span 40 offices and cover 79 countries across three continents.Ali is also the founder and executive sponsor of Microsoft’s large scale ‘4Afrika’ initiative, helping African youth tap into technology to realize their potential. Their work focusses on enabling innovation, encouraging entrepreneurs and startups, developing applications that empowers people and help governments, enabling affordable connectivity and creating life-long learning opportunities for millions of people.Ali is known for his passion for people and technology. His love of the IT industry stems from a strong belief in its ability to empower individuals, transform businesses and positively impact societies. Ali featured amongst the top 10 in Forbes Magazine’s 2016 list of the Top 100 Executives in the Middle East.In his long career in the industry, Ali has held a variety of technical, sales, managerial and executive roles in the Middle East and Europe, with organizations such as Dun & Bradstreet Software, NCR Corporation, Yokogawa Marex and Microsoft Corporation.Ali began his Microsoft career in October 1997 as the General Manager of Microsoft Egypt and took on the broader Eastern Mediterranean region shortly thereafter. In 2002, he led the establishment of Microsoft Middle East and Africa, and was named Area President in 2004. In his tenure, he has led the business’ impressive growth in this key region and was promoted to Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Corporation in 2011.Ali is a dual citizen of Canada and Egypt, and currently resides in Istanbul, Turkey. He completed his undergraduate degree in Computer Science & Automatic Control at the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, and has an MBA in Strategic Marketing from the University of Hull in the UK. Ali and his wife, Shereen, have two sons pursuing careers in business and the arts. In his spare time, he enjoys travel, music, reading, and the occasional round of golf.Ali has served on a number of advisory committees and boards including the Advisory Committee for the President of South Africa (2005-2008), and the US-Egypt Business council (2003-2005). He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the American University in Cairo, as well as the Social Fund for Development in Egypt. He is also the chairman and founder of the MasrdotBokra Foundation, which he established in 2013 as a forum to connect, develop, and support Egyptian youth in pursuit of their careers.
