DIGITAL DIVIDE TO DIGITAL DIVIDEND: EMPOWERING THE LAST BILLION

Activity Description

Digital Divide to Digital Dividend: Empowering the Last Billion

In many instances digital technologies have boosted growth, expanded opportunities, and improved service delivery and we must take advantage of this rapid technological change to make the world more prosperous and inclusive.

In rural communities of Africa, a majority of homes have no access to electricity, the introduction of solar energy to these homes and communities has had the power to transform lives. It helped families save money as well as allowing children to study in the evenings and has given communities access to information through different mediums such as radio, television and mobile phones!

Come and learn how the latest home solar technology is transforming Africa by reducing the rural-urban divide, the keynote will be given by Simon Bransfield-Garth.

Simon has 30 years global experience building rapid growth, technology- based businesses in sectors including Semiconductor, Automotive and Mobile Phones. He is the CEO Azuri Technologies and a serial entrepreneur with a passion for the role of technology in addressing some of the challenges of emerging economies and the potential to bypass a traditional industrial revolution route to development and jump directly to a knowledge-based economy. He was previously a Fellow at Cambridge University and holds a BA and Ph.D in Engineering from St John’s College, Cambridge UK.
