France's new public investment bank merges a number of existing bodies in two broad activities; BPI France Financing (formerly OSEO) and BPI France Investment (formerly CDC Enterprises, FSI and FSI Régions). The BPI provides loan guarantees, co-financing, direct loans and investment in capital, as well as broader business support services.
Founded in 2013 with a kitty of some €20 billion. In 2014 alone it invested €1.1 billion into some 5.500 innovative companies, both directly and through direct partners. This accounts for a 49 percent increase from the amount invested in 2013. BPI France is also an investor in a number of private funds, including roughly 100 funds dedicated to tech/innovation.
It will invest €12b in entrepreneurial businesses by 2017.
