The Global Entrepreneurship Network is pleased to announce that Saudi Arabia has renewed its commitment to global leadership of policy dialogue in entrepreneurship. The new Governor of the Small & Medium Enterprises Authority – Monsha’at (SMEA), Eng. Saleh Al-Rasheed, has joined the Steering Committee of the Startup Nations Ministerial.
“Our vision at Monsha’at is to make entrepreneurs the key drivers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s economy by enabling them to thrive via further cooperation and partnership," said Al-Rasheed. "The discussions at the Startup Nations Ministerial coincide with our Vision 2030 in various fields to support entrepreneurs in the Kingdom as the primary engine of economic development.”
Governor Al-Rasheed came to SMEA – an entity known locally as Monsha’at – with vast experience in facilitating processes for disrupting and innovating in large, traditional industries. Until January 2018, Eng. Al-Rasheed was the Chief Executive Officer of Riyadh Airports Company, which is in charge of the management and operation of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. He led the transformation process of the privatization program for the air transport sector, as well as all services, works, assets and properties in the airport.
Eng. Al-Rasheed also led the digital transformation program at King Khalid International Airport for boosting the services, maximizing the returns and improving the level of services provided to travelers. Previously, Eng. Al-Rasheed also led the management of the Saudi Organization for Industrial Estates and Technology Zones (MODON), launching several initiatives and projects to support the SMEs in the industrial sector, including setting up industrial incubators.
The Governor has been involved on various boards of directors of various entities, including the board of directors of the Saudi Industrial Development Fund, board of directors of the General Corporation of Railways and the board of directors of the Job Generation Authority.
Eng. Al-Rasheed holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from IMD Institute in Switzerland, as well as a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Information Technology from King Saud University, in addition to attending various as well as Advanced Leadership programs degrees from IMD, MIT and Harvard.
