POLICY DIALOGUES

Startup Nations members and knowledge partners host year-round Startup Nations Policy Dialogues, designed to facilitate discussions on government-led interventions at local, national and regional levels. These Policy Dialogues serve to prepare governments for their participation at the annual Startup Nations Ministerial via exchanges focused on current policy challenges, innovative policy solutions, new evidence on impact, and upcoming policy priorities.

Policy Day at the Innovation Growth Lab (IGL) Conference

Seminar-Workshop for Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Professionals

The PRODEM Seminar-Workshop for Entrepreneurship Professionals is the most important gathering for entrepreneurship professionals in Latin America, where delegates exchange experiences in ecosystem building. The core themes of this 9th edition include: innovations in entrepreneurship training, the pipeline of support programs, entrepreneurial capital and impact investment, the role of corporates, entrepreneurship laws and policy tools.

 

US-Mexico High-Level Innovation Forum for Policymakers

Startup Nations Policy Dialogue hosted by The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Fundación IDEA

     Description:

The Mexico Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Fundación IDEA will host their VI High-Level Innovation Forum for Policymakers. The objective of the Forum is to provide a space for the introduction and discussion of policy recommendations that encourage innovation in Mexico.

This High Level Innovation Forum for Policymakers brings together key Mexican legislators, Senators and Deputies, to analyze best practices, brainstorm policy ideas to foster innovation in Mexico, and work directly on issues related to innovation. The long-term goals of this Forum are to develop an innovation caucus in the Mexican legislature made up of a network of legislators informed on issues of pro-innovation policy and to promote the creation of a more innovation-friendly regulation context in the country.

 

FinTech Public Policy

Startup Nations Policy Dialogue hosted by The Fintech Hub

Financial Technologies – FinTech – are disrupting traditional thinking, from how we conceive banking, insurance and microfinance to how governments should address regulatory matters concerning this thriving industry to keep the right balance between public protection and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.Besides deciding what kind and extend of FinTech regulation a government should develop, what else should a country do to increase the speed of moving to a Digital Economy? Enabling a FinTech ecosystem can be addressed from many angles from public transportation adoption, addressing the use and cost of mobile data and infrastructure, tax incentives, etc. This Startup Nations Policy Dialogue shed light on concrete ways to develop and foster the design of FinTech Public Policy.  

 

Innovation in Government & the Public Policy Lean Canvas

Innovation in government is hard.  But government innovation is increasingly seen as imperative, as citizens’ expectations increase driven by the private sector, and governments struggle to keep pace. New paradigms and methodologies are required that enable and encourage government innovation, as well as collaboration and co-creation with citizens, businesses, and NGO’s. This collaborative Policy Dialogue developed in two parts. The first part explored a tool developed for GEN and being used in a number of countries which enables rapid policy innovation - the Public Policy Lean Canvas. In the second part of the session, participants exchanged best practices for how innovation works inside governments.
