Lavell Kirby has worked in Youth Development and Residential Education in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the past 17 years. His previous professional experience includes Group Study Exchange Ambassador to Brazil with Rotary International working in a volunteerism, community service and cultural exchange capacity. He has spent time as a Legislative Fellow through the organization Partners of the Americas in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Mr. Kirby had the opportunity to work with Canta Brasil and co-facilitate Performing Arts, English language training, entrepreneurship and cultural understanding workshops for at risk youth from impoverished communities.
After returning from Brazil, Mr. Kirby created the Future Entrepreneurs of America Club for middle school students to teach the basics of small business development. In addition, he established the College Access and Career Exposure Program as a partnership with West Chester University to help at risk youth gain access to higher education and an understanding of the possibilities associated with college life. Mr. Kirby has been a consultant on the development of entrepreneurship programs at two Philadelphia High Schools and continues to mentor former students in their interests in business. His most recent project, The Entrepreneurship Expo (www.The-E-Expo.com), was created to bring area youth (12-24) together for a day of business education workshops, networking and resource sharing to help spark new entrepreneurs and businesses. He plans to use this event to create a network that connects young entrepreneurs to one another and help facilitate bilateral exchanges for students at universities interested in entrepreneurship and community service throughout the Western Hemisphere.
His forthcoming publication, “The Young Entrepreneur’s Guide to Opportunity and Success” will detail his personal experience in business, provide incite for new entrepreneurs and be made available to students in English, Spanish and Portuguese. His ultimate goal is to use entrepreneurial training as a method to impact youth and create positive social change. He recently received the 2014 Impact Award from the US Department of State for his volunteerism and community development work in Brazil.
Mr. Kirby holds a B.S. in Elementary/Special Education degree from Temple University and M.S. in Marketing Management Int. Business from Wilmington University. He is certified in multiple areas including Event Planning, Project Management and Domestic Product Exporting. He plans to further his education in 2017-2018 in International Relations with a concentration in Entrepreneurial Development and Poverty Reduction for the purpose of curriculum development and workforce training.
