Carmela Zabala is a Financial Education Instructor, Financial Inclusion Consultant and a Social Entrepreneur. Her mission is to empower Filipinos achieve their full potential and enabling them to become an impact giver and contributor to nation building. As a Financial Capability Advocate, she campaigns for increased financial literacy and financial access for all. She developed SELFMatters program, a holistic social and financial capability which integrates social responsibility, entrepreneurship, and life skills to financial capability.
She has worked in various countries such as Spain and the United Kingdom including the Philippines in banking, real estate and investment where she brings these experiences in her advocacy and work in financial capability and financial inclusion. In the UK, she implemented financial inclusion programs to integrate diverse communities into the mainstream socially and financially. She collaborated with Women’s World Banking in Madrid, Spain in developing their financial capability program for immigrant women micro entrepreneurs. In the Philippines, she led the development and rollout of various youth and adult focused social and financial literacy programs for various private and public sector including nonprofit organizations. She speaks in conferences locally, regionally and internationally on topics such as financial inclusion, financial capability, social entrepreneurship, community building and food sustainability. She conducts workshops, trainings and seminars on investment planning for organizations and financial capability for corporate organizations, government and non-profit organizations.
She founded TheVillageGreenShop, a food education platform and a low carbon food social enterprise that addresses toxicity in food, food waste, and unsustainable consumption. She encourages Filipinos to support local farmers, eat locally sourced and ethically produced foods. She passionately advocates for parents to teach their children to appreciate nature and how to eat right.
She obtained her Masters in Financial Analysis in Spain, post-graduate program in Economics in the Philippines, and Social Housing and Regeneration in the United Kingdom including Personal Finance Planning in the Philippines. Also, she is a Certified Investment Adviser in Mutual Funds.
