Bio
Hi, my name is Chris Petrie and am the founder of InSight AI. I have over 10 years' experience in education and am hugely passionate about transformative learning experiences with emerging and disruptive technologies. I am a skilled and experienced presenter and facilitator, leading seminars, interactive workshops, classes and tutorials for school students, teaching staff, and industry professionals. In September 2017 I was selected by the Royal Society Te Apārangi, in collaboration with the German Embassy to speak on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Education’ at the Falling Walls Lab event held at the Australian Academy of Science in Canberra. At its heart of this event is the question ‘Which are the next walls to fall?’ as a result of scientific, technological, economic and sociological breakthroughs. My speech on artificial intelligence in education is available to watch here amongst my listed videos. I also presented at the eLearnz eLab 2016 Auckland conference for a workshop in Augmented and Virtual Reality, and subsequently invited to an expert panel discussion with Auckland Museum and others at the National Digital Forum (video listed here in my profile) 2017 in Wellington, New Zealand on the future potential of Augmented Reality for the GLAM sector. In February 2017, I won second place at a summer start-up programme run through the University of Canterbury with a scholarship sponsored by Sheffield Executive Recruitment.
InSight AI specialises in using innovative machine learning techniques to help deliver personalised learning experiences in education and training. The aim of InSight AI is to challenge our current education model of standardised testing, and to recognise that students not only progress at distinctive rates - but often have disparate backgrounds and starting points. The recent emergence of AI and machine learning can support these distinct needs, through accurate and automated individualised help tailored to the student.
I come from a family of professional programmers, and love to create inspiring content for virtual and augmented reality devices like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. My technical background includes experience working and teaching in Python, web development languages such as JavaScript, MySql, Php, HTML/CSS, and Unity VR/AR development using C#. I have a keen interest for frictionless user-experience behind HCI (Human-Computer-Interaction) and a critical eye for functional, dynamic, and striking front-end digital design.
