The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) is celebrating Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010 in a series of programs, together with its international network of private sector partners. CIPE provides young entrepreneurs with the tools to become effective leaders and supports policy reform initiatives to create a positive environment for entrepreneurship.

In Afghanistan, CIPE has arranged an exhibition on November 11 at Abol Qasim Ferdawsi High School in Kabul. Students representing 11 Kabul schools from the Tashabos entrepreneurship education program—which teaches the basic principles of free enterprise—will put their products on display. The program has been coordinated with the Ministry of Education as well as the Kabul-based media. Media will have an opportunity to interview some of the students who have already set up businesses after participating in the Tashabos program.

In Egypt on November 3, CIPE and independent media organization Al Masry Al Youm, with the support of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the Intel Corporation, launched the Arabic translation of Good Capitalism, Bad Capitalism, and the Economics of Growth and Prosperity at a gathering of over 250 influential Egyptian leaders from business, government, politics, academia, civil society, and the media. The highlight of the event was a keynote speech via video conference by co-author Robert Litan, Vice President of Research and Policy at the Kauffman Foundation.

CIPE in partnership with the Coalition of Women’s Business Associations is organizing a roundtable in Ramnicu Valcea, Romania, on November 19: “Entrepreneurship in Times of Crisis.” In attendance will be women managers and business women representing member associations of the Coalition of Women’s Business Associations, created in 2004 with CIPE support. Discussions will cover the following topics, with particular attention to young women entrepreneurs: the evolution of Romanian companies; economic obstacles and incentives in 2009 – 2010; and prospects for 2011 and the coalition’s response to the economic crisis.

In Ethiopia, Bright Africa Youth Association will be hosting a live discussion on FM radio regarding the role of media in promoting entrepreneurship, as well as a youth discussion on the provision of space for young entrepreneurs.

In Nepal, Samriddhi – The Prosperity Foundation will engage its partners, including media, colleges, and entrepreneurs’ clubs in discussions on the importance of entrepreneurship in Nepal.

In addition, CIPE’s partners in Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek Business Club), Paraguay (Fundacion Paraguaya), Tunisia (L’Institut Arabe des Chefs d’Entreprises), and elsewhere are coordinating activities ranging from debates and essay contests to radio interviews and panel discussions.
