How was it implemented?

FINCA Uganda was established in 1992 as part of the global FINCA Impact Finance network, which was founded to provide financial services to low-income entrepreneurs around the world. The creation of FINCA Uganda was driven by the need to address the significant gap in access to financial services for underserved populations in Uganda, particularly among small business owners and entrepreneurs who lacked the necessary collateral or credit history to secure traditional bank loans.

The institution began by offering microloans to individuals and groups, enabling them to start or expand their businesses. This approach was rooted in the belief that providing financial resources to entrepreneurs could lead to job creation, improved living standards, and broader economic development. Over time, FINCA Uganda expanded its offerings to include savings accounts, money transfer services, and financial education, all designed to support the financial stability and growth of its clients.

FINCA Uganda's establishment was also marked by a commitment to innovation and financial inclusion. It was one of the first financial institutions in the country to adopt biometric technology, enhancing security and accessibility for its clients. This focus on technology and client-centered services has been a cornerstone of FINCA Uganda's operations, helping it to build a strong reputation and a broad client base across the country. Through its efforts, FINCA Uganda has played a significant role in promoting economic empowerment and reducing poverty in the communities it serves.
