Recently the Tajik NGO Peshsaf, along with the Agency for Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Inspection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan (Tajikstandard), presented a new web-based National Electronic Registry of Goods, Services and Works that will enable Tajikstandard to collect process and disseminate information about certification, safety and quality of consumer products.

They also launched a new mobile app Sifat that allows consumers to report spoiled and expired products in grocery stores to Tajikstandard to help improve food safety and security. This technology both helps the staff of Tajikstandard track food safety and empowers the citizens of Tajikistan while improving public health and preventing food borne illnesses. The app is available in Tajik, Russian and English, and the identity of consumers is kept confidential by Tajikstandard. The project is implemented by local NGO Peshsaf in partnership with Tajikstandard via a small grant from the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia funded by USAID's Good Governance Initiative Fund.

RESULTS:

This is a new project.

NOTES + ADDITIONAL CONTEXT:

Tajikistan's economy is heavily agricultural. The program and app especially help food producers and retailers to meet government certification, quality and safety standards and so save money and time.
