About this event

What is the Climathon

𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻 is a city-based, global programme that offers a pathway to climate action. An initiative was created a few years ago by EIT Climate-KIC in which small groups of enterprising or action-oriented citizens in different cities think about locally selected climate or sustainability challenges. The goal, then, is to find innovative solutions on how to tackle them concretely.

The global idea is to raise climate awareness, disrupt the status quo, and rethink the places we live in and the future we want as citizens. At the core of the Climathon programme is an ideathon. The ideathon, usually short and intense, brings different people with various backgrounds to brainstorm innovative ideas to tackle problems together.

Climathon Leuven 2021

It is actually the first time for Leuven, the European Capital of Innovation, to participate in global action to tackle climate challenges! The local initiative was taken by Leuven 2030 who recruited ᒪ ᐯ ᑎ (Leuven Value Network) to co-host the event.

Your Challenges:

1. How can we use the renewable energy generated in Leuven for the energy supply of buildings and sustainable mobility?
2. How can we develop a zero-emission city distribution network in Leuven?
3. How can we make Leuven the greenest city in Europe?
4. How can we help organisations and companies to map their residual flows from food consumption to boost the circular economy in Leuven?
5. How can the principles of the circular economy be applied to renovations and new construction projects in Leuven?
