The Business Advisory Centre Durham (BACD) and the Spark Centre first created Do It In Durham in 2013.  The idea behind the initiative was to showcase influential business owners who were “Doing it in Durham” and to use this as a forum to inspire, celebrate and connect those who were interested in entrepreneurship in the Durham Region.

Do It In Durham is a week to network, gain knowledge, and find potential collaborators, mentors and even investors – introducing everyone to new possibilities and exciting opportunities. We wanted to show that if you were thinking of starting a business consider Durham, because we have all the support systems and resources you would need right here.

The Region of Durham is primed for business creation and growth.  In fact, the Profit Guide recently published the list of Canada’s Best Places for Business listing Whitby in #5 and Ajax in #8!  Our Region has great supports in the entrepreneurial programs that are run, our Universities and Colleges have the FastStart Program and we have a Small Business Enterprise Centre (BACD) and a Research & Innovation Centre (Spark Centre)

We chose the Global Entrepreneurship Week for the timing of this initiative because of the spirit of this week, the world’s largest celebration of business innovators and job creators, who launch startups and run businesses that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

Since then, Do It In Durham has evolved and grown to be a much bigger initiative and this year we are on target for over 50 events across the Region.  BACD is the lead collaborator bringing together community partners, speakers, hosts and businesses for celebration.  We help create the events based on what businesses have said they would like as well as following trends in the entrepreneurial space.

We are also very proud and pleased with the sponsors who have shown their support, notably Meridian Credit Union, Constant Contact, Durham Radio Inc, RK Fischer & Associates, Spark Centre and many other partners.
