GEN Country Award Criteria

The Compass Award for GEN Country is given to GEN's national leaders who have best advanced GEN’s mission, values, impact, and operations at the country level.

Nominees and finalists are selected by GEN, based on a variety of factors including:

• Strategy and Leadership: Initiative and creativity in navigating current barriers to increasing rates of entrepreneurship and in smart strategic planning for the future.
• Growth: Demonstrated growth in terms of overall GEN membership in the country, number of programs, quality of partnerships, and amount of funded work as measured by data collected by GEN Global staff.
• National Ecosystem Engagement: Engagement and public buy-in from the country’s leading founders, entrepreneurial support organizations, investor communities and policymakers, and efforts to host GEN Meet Ups and other activities to convene them.
• Program Initiatives and Implementation: Implementation of existing GEN Global programs in country and success in designing and implementing new local initiatives.
• Brand Visibility and Alignment: Success in leveraging the GEN brand and aligning and implementing efforts “under the Compass,” following global brand guidelines, and ensuring in-country activities are well reflected on global communications channels including the GEN country website.
• Global Interface and Responsiveness: Responsiveness to communications from GEN Global staff and other GEN Global members around the world, including active participation in official GEN platforms and community groups, GEN Global programs and GEN events outside the country.
• Effort: Beyond performance outputs, GEN gives value to effort and takes into consideration local conditions, including availability of resources, the political climate, wars and natural disasters when evaluating nations that have achieved the most year on year.

Candidates for this award are nominated by GEN HQ staff using objective data tracked by the organization.
