In Focus: Taxation and Certification in Mexico

AICEP, sponsored by Banco Millennium BCP, held an Em Foco (In Focus) dedicated to Taxation and Certification in Mexico, October 31st in Porto.

In this event, we analyzed fundamental aspects that should be known to companies interested in Mexico, such as the current business in Mexico, including the main infrastructure, energy and real estate projects, the situation of the industry and the possible impact of the Free Trade Agreement of North America and the main ways of doing business in Mexico.

The most relevant tax aspects for foreign investors and the certification of assets, people and services are the topics that we will deepen, and AICEP invited two international specialists in the Mexican market for this purpose.

Santiago Chacón, Partner of Garrigues (Garrigues (Mexico) - Latin Lawyer 250), has 17 years of experience as a specialist in international taxation, namely in Mexico, where he lives, as well as in Brazil and in England. His expertise has a very focused component in tax planning by foreign entities not resident in Mexico.

Ana María López Cano, AENOR's Technical Assistance Manager in Mexico, has been working for 30 years on issues related to international certification and regulation, in particular with regard to matters of international trade inspection in the Mexican market, as well as technical matters to Mexican and European standards.

The session began with a presentation of the country made by the director of AICEP in Mexico, Álvaro Cunha, who presents novelties of the Mexican market.

Also worthy of mention was the speed meetings with the invited experts and the director of AICEP in Mexico, where the companies were able to clarify particular issues and initiate contacts with these two entities.
