The preselection took place on August 4 in Berlin by an expert jury. The startup will compete in the international final in Copenhagen from November 13 to 16, 2017.

The journalism startup from Leipzig was founded in 2015 and builds the first online platform that systematically helps newsreaders to break out of their filter bubble. Readers can view pro and contra arguments for current issues sourced from bloggers, journalists and activists from all over the world. At TheBuzzard.org readers can form their own opinions more quickly – independent of media and social networks. The team of five has already been awarded the “Kultur- und Kreativpiloten Deutschland” and is financially and ideally supported by the Google Digital News Initiative, the journalism network VOCER and Media Lab Bayern.

The jury emphasized in particular that the representation of a broad spectrum of opinions on the platform of The Buzzard creates a unique offer. The business idea was presented in a very convincing pitch.

“We are incredibly happy and grateful that the jury has chosen us to present our idea in the grand finale in November. We are looking forward to travel to Copenhagen” said founder and CEO Dario Nassal.

The Creative Business Cup is part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week. Germany is participating for the sixth time. The company that wins the Creative Business Cup in November will not only be awarded with cash and non-cash prizes, but will also receive worldwide attention and the opportunity to establish contacts with creative companies and investors from around the world.

The selection of the German candidate team took place as part of an intensive workshop day where the four most promising candidates received coaching and presented themselves with a pitch to the jury. The selection was organized by the RKW Competence Center, which coordinates Germany's Global Entrepreneurship Week on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi)

The jury was composed of Peter Gabriel (VDI / VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH), Iris S. Hafner (IT-Layer, Business Angels Berlin-Brandenburg), Lilia Kleemann (baukind UG, Kultur- und Kreativpiloten Deutschand 2011/2012), Holger Maus (Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy) and Harm Wurthmann (RKW Bremen).
