GEW 2024: ASTRAtech Youth Entrepreneurs Development (A-YED)

Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2024 at ASTRAtech Indonesia culminated in the inspiring ASTRAtech Youth Entrepreneurs Development (A-YED) event on November 21, 2024. Held at the A-STAR Komunal, ASTRAtech’s premier venue for collaboration and innovation, this sub-event aimed to lay the groundwork for ASTRAtech’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, emphasizing student empowerment and global networking.

The event featured two notable guest speakers: Mr. Edison Monoarfa, the Department Head of Strategic Planning and Sustainability at Yayasan Dharma Bhakti Astra (YDBA) and Dr. Anthon S. Thondo, the Director of Research and Education at GEN Indonesia. Representing GEN Indonesia, Dr. Thondo delivered a heartfelt, five-page speech penned by Director Mr. Ivan Sandjaja, congratulating ASTRAtech on launching A-YED and welcoming it into the GEN global network. This collaboration between ASTRAtech, YDBA, and GEN Indonesia signifies a shared commitment to fostering the next generation of innovative entrepreneurs.

During the launch of this program, Ms. Tri Yuli Adriana, Deputy Director IV of ASTRAtech, delivered an inspiring message: "Regardless of the career path you choose in the future, entrepreneurship will be an essential foundation for achieving success in life. I encourage you to approach this program with enthusiasm and steadfast dedication."

A-YED is set to become the foundation for ASTRAtech’s forthcoming Student Business Incubator. Designed to empower aspiring entrepreneurs, it will offer a series of dynamic programs, including training, coaching, and access to global networks. While initially focused on ASTRAtech students, the program envisions expanding its reach to include participants from the wider community in the future. Moreover, participants will have opportunities to secure grants or funding, enabling them to transform their business ideas into reality.

This initiative not only equips students with entrepreneurial skills but also broadens their career prospects. Beyond traditional employment in industries, A-YED empowers students to confidently pursue entrepreneurship, becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

The successful launch of A-YED represents ASTRAtech’s forward-thinking approach to education and its commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial spirit. About Politeknik Astra

Astra Polytechnic (ASTRAtech), formerly known as Politeknik Manufaktur Astra (Polman Astra), is a vocational higher education institution offering Diploma 3 and Diploma 4 programs under the auspices of Yayasan Astra Bina Ilmu (YABI), one of nine foundations owned by PT Astra International Tbk. Established in Jakarta in 1995 by PT Federal Motor (now PT Astra Honda Motor or AHM), it initially operated as Akademi Teknik Federal under Yayasan Federal Bina Ilmu. In 2001, the institution was renamed Politeknik Manufaktur Astra, commonly known as Polman Astra. On April 21, 2021, it officially adopted its current name, Politeknik Astra, with the brand name ASTRAtech.

ASTRAtech envisions becoming a leading vocational higher education institution producing internationally competent graduates and developing applied technologies relevant to current and future industries.

Currently, ASTRAtech offers six Three-year Diploma programs: Production Tool and Die Manufacturing Engineering (P4), Manufacturing Process and Production Engineering (TPM), Informatics Management (MI), Automotive Engineering (MO), Mechatronics (MK), and Building Construction Technology (TKBG). Additionally, it offers three Applied Bachelor (D4) programs: Heavy Equipment Maintenance Engineering Technology (TRPAB), Logistics Engineering Technology (TRL), and Software Engineering Technology (TRPL).

Since 2009, as part of the Semangat Astra Terpadu (SATU Indonesia) program, Politeknik Astra has provided over 1,100 students with scholarships through the Astra Achievement Scholarship Program. The selection process is rigorous to ensure the scholarships reach those who genuinely need financial support. The success of this program lies not in the disbursement of allocated funds but in effectively assisting students who truly require financial aid.

Since its establishment in 1995, Politeknik Astra has graduated 4,582 Associate Engineers, significantly contributing to the industrial development of Indonesia, particularly within the Astra Group. In the past five years, approximately 50% of Politeknik Astra’s alumni have been absorbed into the Astra Group, demonstrating the institution’s strong alignment with industry demands for highly skilled technical professionals.
