Historypreneurship: Synergies between History, Culture and The Creative Industries in Indonesia

The event titled Historypreneurship: Synergies between History, Culture, and The Creative Industries in Indonesia took place on Monday, November 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Theater Lt. 7, Universitas Ciputra Surabaya. This activity was part of the Global Entrepreneur Week and was attended by active students of the university as part of a guest lecture. The event began with a welcoming speech by Ir. Yohannes Somawiharja, M.Sc., the Rector of Universitas Ciputra Surabaya, who introduced the topic of the lecture. He explained that history and entrepreneurship are often seen as conflicting because entrepreneurship typically avoids selling history. However, through the material presented by Peter Carey, the students were expected to understand how these two topics can be reconciled, especially given the connection between Western and Eastern knowledge on history and entrepreneurship. This reconciliation should still consider three entrepreneurial patterns: sensitivity to others' needs, constructing creativity to produce innovation, and executing plans effectively.

Peter Carey, a renowned historian and author of many inspiring books, shared his insights. He explained that in the long run, places with strong identities are more promising and successful compared to those with weak or false identities. As Indonesians, we should leverage our cultural heritage to unlock entrepreneurial potential. It is not enough to simply have cultural heritage; it must be worked on and nurtured. At the end of the event, Peter Carey offered an encouraging quote: "Never give up, stay motivated, be confident, and paint the horizon with creativity."
