Agri & Tour Ed Exchange

The session moves beyond general cooperation to focus intensely on two core sectors vital for Ungheni's economic future: Resilient Agriculture and Sustainable Agrotourism. By connecting local governance, education (Agroindustrial College), and business stakeholders (Tinutul de Vest Cluster) directly with North Carolina state officials and NC State University experts, the event serves as a high-impact platform for the immediate transfer of knowledge. The core focus is on integrating agricultural excellence, environmental stewardship, and entrepreneurial innovation into the local development ecosystem.

Objectives

  1. Knowledge & Best Practice Transfer: To facilitate the direct exchange of proven, climate-resilient agricultural and agrotourism practices from North Carolina (e.g., successful on-farm experience models, precision agriculture, and local branding strategies) to local producers and entrepreneurs in Ungheni.
  2. Educational & Institutional Partnership: To establish a robust collaboration framework between the Ungheni District Council, the local Agroindustrial College, and NC State University (USA) to integrate modern agricultural and entrepreneurial education into the curriculum and to foster student/faculty exchange opportunities.
  3. Local Ecosystem Building: To discuss actionable strategies for local branding, clusterization (e.g., "Tinutul de Vest"), and governance improvements necessary to create an environment where sustainable agritourism and innovative agricultural enterprises can thrive.
  4. Resilient Development Action: To identify concrete next steps for integrating environmental stewardship and entrepreneurial innovation into Ungheni's long-term economic strategy, aligning with the broader NC-Moldova partnership goals for 2025/2026.

The Participant Community: The session convenes a multi-sectoral group from Ungheni: local governance (Ungheni District Council), the educational sector (Agroindustrial College), the development partner (GEN Moldova), local agricultural agents, members of the "Tinutul de Vest" Cluster, and key local tourism businesses (e.g., Rezervația, Casa Pascaru, Crama Manoileşti). The international community is represented by experts from the Department of Agriculture and NC State University in North Carolina.

History: This event is the direct result of the long-standing NC-Moldova Partnership (1999) and a series of preliminary activities, including study visits to North Carolina, ongoing NC-Moldova School Partnerships, and a series of thematic events held in November 2025 focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, environmental stewardship, governance, and agrotourism. These focused activities have established a strong "Local Bond" and positioned Ungheni as a leader in the practical, local implementation of the bilateral partnership.
