Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012 was hosted by Alternate Solutions, a company formed by University Professors and students to promote Entrepreneurship at the grass root level. To inspire and promote community engagement among youth by promoting social responsibility. And to develop a platform and portal to bring together all common stakeholders by sharing together resources and information.
We celebrated GEW 2012 in various cities of Pakistan, Major cities were; Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, and Taxilla.
GEW Pakistan organized 7 major activities/event in collaboration with US Embassy Pakistan. Activities included;
- Business Acumen”
- "Franchise Business in Pakistan"
- "High Impact Technology Business"
- "Social Entrepreneurship
- "Women Empowerment through Women Entrepreneurship"
- "Access to Finance"
- “Policy Round Table Conference”
Over one thousand people attended these events and we reached about a million through social media (twitter, facebook, and vimeo). The most important event was Policy Round Table Conference, We had a wide panel of important economic actors gathered to propose concrete steps at Marriott hotel Islamabad to invigorate the entrepreneurship ecosystem. They brain stormed the constraints in creating and enabling environment for entrepreneurship growth in Pakistan, after which some key constraints were selected and their possible solutions were discussed to determine a way forward.
The discussion was moderated by Ms. Kanwal Bokhari, the Economic Growth Advisor of USAID. The panel members included Mr. Rashid Khan, Mr Hassan Raza, Mr. Razwan Rizvi, Mr. Imtiaz Rastgar, Dr. Shahina Wahi, Mr. Sardar Hayat, Mr. Faisal Mushtaq, Mr. Shahid Ansari, Ms. Inez, Mr. Malik Shehryar, Mr. Muhammad Farrukh, Mr. Adnan Shahid, Mr. Moeen Batley, Mr. Bilal Furrukh, Mr. Naveed Mirza, Mr. Amer Hashmi, Ms. Linda Lourie and Dr. Sohail Naqvi.
Overall GEW 2012 was a great success, our network of entrepreneurs is ever increasing, along with potential partners for the future events. We are already working with CIPE Pakistan, to organize an event where we’ll be inviting people from academia, to discuss the inclusion of entrepreneurship courses in their curriculum.
