Balancing Family and Business

Balancing Family and Business

The Balancing Family and Business session, conducted on 04.11.2025 during Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2025, was designed to help parents understand how to manage family life alongside business responsibilities in a healthy, sustainable way. Organized by the undergraduates of ICST University Park with the support of ICTA Sri Lanka, the session served as a guide for parents who aspire to support entrepreneurship within their families.

The program began by explaining the role of an entrepreneur an individual who brings creative ideas to life, takes risks, solves problems, and creates value. Parents learned that entrepreneurship is more than earning money; it is about developing independence, resilience, and innovation within the family environment. The session highlighted the essential influence parents have in shaping attitudes toward creativity, work ethic, and decision-making.

Participants were introduced to practical steps for supporting entrepreneurial journeys whether their own or their child’s. This included identifying viable ideas, setting achievable goals, time management, resource planning, and creating a supportive home environment that encourages consistent growth.

A strong emphasis was placed on the importance of balancing family and business. The session demonstrated how maintaining strong family relationships reduces stress, improves productivity and leads to long-term personal and professional satisfaction. Real-life scenarios, challenges, and solutions were shared to help parents overcome issues like time pressure, stress and boundary-setting.

By the end of the session, parents were empowered with strategies to plan ahead, communicate openly, involve family members appropriately, and create routines that support both family well-being and entrepreneurial success.
This session encouraged families to adopt a united approach where ambition and family care move forward together.
