Building a tech startup

Tech + ideas = your future startup!

The Building a Tech Startup session, held on 19 November 2025 at Green Way College under GEW 2025, introduced students to the exciting world of technology-driven entrepreneurship. The session aimed to inspire young learners to explore digital industry opportunities while helping them understand the mindset, skills, and processes required to turn a simple idea into a scalable tech-based business.

Students were first introduced to the meaning of a tech startup a business that uses technology to solve real problems in new and efficient ways. They learned that most global tech companies began as small ideas created by young innovators who combined passion, problem-solving, and creativity. The facilitator emphasized that “a startup is not just an idea; it’s a solution to a real problem,” encouraging students to focus on identifying genuine needs before building digital solutions.

The session guided students through the step-by-step startup process, including problem identification, ideation, designing solutions, building prototypes, obtaining user feedback, and achieving market fit. Students also explored key technology domains such as app development, AI, web development, robotics, and cybersecurity broadening their awareness of the digital career paths available to them.

A strong focus was placed on scalability and adaptability. Students learned that “if your solution works for ten, it must be ready for a thousand,” reinforcing the need for planning growth early. They also learned that “pivoting is not failure; it’s strategy,” helping them understand that flexible thinking and continuous improvement are essential in the startup journey.

Through interactive activities, students mapped out startup ideas, analyzed customer segments, and explored funding options. They were introduced to the full entrepreneurial flow:
Problem → Idea → Technology → Prototype → Market Fit → Funding → Scaling → Sustainability,
which clearly demonstrated how tech startups grow from simple concepts into impactful digital solutions.

The session also addressed common challenges faced by young entrepreneurs, including lack of resources, fear of failure, and turning ideas into action. Practical strategies such as starting small, learning continuously, seeking mentorship, and using free digital tools empowered students to take confident first steps toward entrepreneurship.

By the end of the session, students felt motivated to explore the world of technology, innovate boldly, and believe that any young person with curiosity and determination can build a startup.
