Handling Rejection & Failure

Every “no” leads you closer to a better “yes”!

The Handling Rejection & Failure session, held on 20 November 2025 as part of GEW 2025, helped students understand that setbacks are a natural and essential part of growth. Organized by the undergraduates of ICST University Park in collaboration with ICTA Sri Lanka, the session aimed to build emotional strength, resilience, and a positive mindset among school students.

The session began by reframing failure not as a final outcome but as a stepping stone toward improvement. Students learned that even successful entrepreneurs, scientists, and leaders faced repeated rejection before achieving meaningful success. This helped them understand that mistakes do not define their abilities or worth. Instead, they serve as opportunities to rethink strategies, learn, and grow stronger.

A powerful message shared was: “Failure is not falling down; it’s refusing to get up.” Students were also reminded that “every rejection is redirection,” encouraging them to see setbacks as opportunities to refine ideas and discover new approaches. These reminders helped students shift their perspective from fear to courage and from disappointment to learning.

Participants were guided through practical strategies for dealing with rejection, including staying calm, understanding feedback, practicing self-reflection, and trying again with improved effort. They learned that maintaining a positive mindset, developing good habits, managing stress, and seeking support from trusted family members and teachers can make the recovery process easier and more meaningful.

The facilitator introduced an entrepreneurial growth flow:
Rejection → Reflection → Learning → Adaptation → Resilience → Growth → Success,
helping students see how each step contributes to long-term achievement. They also discussed how entrepreneurs use failure as fuel for innovation, adapting quickly and continuing forward with enhanced clarity.

Students participated in reflective activities where they shared personal experiences and explored how those moments shaped their confidence and character. These discussions helped them understand that setbacks are universal and that overcoming them builds emotional intelligence and inner strength.

By the end of the session, students felt encouraged, empowered, and more confident in their ability to face challenges. They recognized that rejection and failure are not barriers but catalysts for personal and entrepreneurial growth.
