Innovation Begins with Curiosity

Innovation starts with a simple question “Why?”

The Innovation Begins with Curiosity session, held on 21 November 2025 as part of GEW 2025, was designed to help students understand that curiosity is the foundation of every meaningful innovation. Organized by ICST University Park, the session encouraged students to develop a mindset that questions, explores, and seeks new possibilities.

The session began with an explanation of how innovation originates—not from advanced tools or special expertise, but from a simple desire to understand how things work or how they can be improved. Students learned that many world-changing inventions and businesses were born from someone asking a bold question and refusing to accept the status quo.

A key message emphasized was: “Innovation starts when curiosity asks the first question.” Students examined real stories of entrepreneurs, inventors, and scientists who used curiosity to challenge existing systems, explore new ideas, and create impactful solutions. These real-world examples demonstrated that innovation grows from observing problems, recognizing unmet needs, and thinking from different perspectives.

Students participated in practical exercises that strengthened their ability to think critically, question assumptions, and explore ideas creatively. They discovered that curiosity is not about instantly finding answers—it's about deeply understanding problems. The session highlighted that every problem is an opportunity for innovation and encouraged students to adopt a habit of continuous learning, observation and exploration.

The workshop also introduced students to curiosity-driven tools used in entrepreneurship, such as brainstorming, market research, and idea-generation frameworks. These tools helped students understand how innovators uncover new opportunities by asking why, what if, and how might we questions.

By the end of the session, students felt more confident in their ability to think independently and creatively. Many expressed a newfound motivation to look at everyday challenges as opportunities for personal and entrepreneurial growth. The session successfully inspired students to embrace curiosity as a lifelong skill—one that fuels innovation, strengthens problem-solving, and opens doors to future possibilities.
