Tie-and-Dye Saree Design Work Shop Series- Day 8

The workshop moved to Matara, where participants received practical training in tie-dye saree design, covering fabric preparation, dye mixing, pattern formation, colour layering, and finishing methods. The programme focused on experiential learning, enabling participants to build confidence in producing consistent and visually appealing designs suitable for modern markets. Through guided practice and experimentation, attendees learned how to adapt natural and synthetic dyes to different fabric types for optimal results. The workshop also emphasized low-cost, small-scale production strategies to support home-based workers and small entrepreneurs in building viable textile businesses. By equipping participants with both creative capabilities and market-focused knowledge, the programme enhanced opportunities for income generation, encouraged micro-enterprises, and strengthened the development of locally crafted fashion products in Matara.
