Viral Marketing How to Get People Talking

Create stories people can’t help but share!

The Viral Marketing: How to Get People Talking session, held on 20 November 2025, introduced students to the strategic techniques behind creating content that spreads rapidly across social networks. The session emphasized that viral success is not based on luck it is driven by human psychology, relatable storytelling, and emotional connection. Students were encouraged to view viral marketing as a form of conversation, not just promotion.

Facilitators explained that “people don’t share ads; they share stories,” helping students understand that storytelling, authenticity, and relevance are the core ingredients of viral content. They explored how emotions such as humor, inspiration, and surprise significantly increase shareability. Students also learned that “simplicity spreads faster than complexity,” encouraging them to craft messages that are clear, memorable, and easy to pass along.

The session highlighted the importance of trust in digital communication. Students learned that “trust fuels sharing,” meaning audiences engage more with content that feels genuine and authentic rather than overly polished or promotional. They also explored the role of timing, with facilitators emphasizing that “virality is about timingcatch the wave, don’t chase it,” guiding them to pay attention to trends and cultural moments.

During interactive activities, students brainstormed their own mock viral campaigns, experimenting with humor, emotional hooks, social causes, and simple storytelling. They analyzed how platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and online communities amplify content when it resonates with users and sparks conversation.

Students were also introduced to the viral marketing journey:
Idea → Story → Emotion → Share → Conversation → Virality → Impact,
which showed how content evolves from a simple idea into a widespread movement when crafted strategically.

By the end of the session, students gained confidence in designing content that inspires organic sharing. They understood that viral marketing requires creativity, authenticity, emotional resonance, and good timing not just visibility. The session successfully motivated them to think of marketing as a dynamic conversation that can transform ideas into impactful movements.
