Volunteering as Skill-Building

The “Volunteering as Skill-Building” session, held on 01st November 2025, was conducted to help students understand how volunteering can shape their personal, professional, and entrepreneurial growth. The session highlighted that volunteering is not just community service, but a powerful pathway to gaining hands-on experience, building confidence, and enhancing employability.

A key highlight was the motivational talk delivered by Mr. Ifham from ICTA Sri Lanka, who shared how his own volunteer experiences during university helped him gain real-world exposure, collaborate with professionals, and develop skills in research, development, teamwork, communication, and leadership. His journey inspired students to view volunteering as an entry point into entrepreneurship and skill development.

The session encouraged students to actively participate in volunteer opportunities to strengthen soft skills such as adaptability, problem-solving, and initiative qualities essential for success in both careers and entrepreneurship. Students responded enthusiastically, expressing interest in future volunteer programs and recognizing how volunteering bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world experience. Overall, the activity motivated students to adopt a proactive mindset and use volunteering as a pathway to personal growth, professional development, and meaningful community contribution.
