What is a Chatbot

Where AI meets conversation

The What Is a Chatbot? session, held on 06 November 2025 as part of GEW 2025, introduced students to the concept of chatbots and their growing role in the digital world. Organized by ICST University, the session aimed to help participants understand how artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation are transforming modern communication, customer support, and business operations. Students learned that chatbots are computer programs designed to simulate conversation, answer questions, and assist users quickly and efficiently.

The session began with a confident student presenter explaining what chatbots are and how they work, supported by relatable examples from everyday technology use. Facilitators guided the discussion to help students differentiate between traditional apps and conversational AI tools, creating an engaging atmosphere where students asked questions, shared experiences, and explored the purpose of chatbot technology.

Students were introduced to practical uses of chatbots across industries, including e-learning, customer service, business automation, healthcare, and banking. They learned how chatbots provide 24/7 support, reduce workload, and improve user experience making them powerful tools for entrepreneurs and organizations.

A hands-on activity allowed students to go beyond theory by planning and writing simple chatbot responses. This exercise encouraged them to think like creators, analyze user needs, structure conversations, and collaborate effectively in groups. It helped them develop problem-solving, communication, and creative thinking skills.

Overall, the session successfully enhanced students’ understanding of chatbot technology and inspired them to appreciate the importance of intelligent automation in the modern digital environment. It also encouraged students to think innovatively about using AI tools in future academic or entrepreneurial projects.
