What is Start-Up

Small idea. Big start-up. Begin your journey!

The What is Start-Up session, held on 06 November 2025 as part of GEW 2025, was designed to help parents, students, and community members understand how new businesses are created and how simple ideas can grow into real entrepreneurial opportunities. Organized by ICST University, the session simplified the concept of startups and introduced participants to how innovative ideas can be transformed into practical ventures.

The session began with facilitators explaining the basic meaning of a startup, supported by simple real-life examples. This warm and supportive environment encouraged participants to interact, ask questions, and feel confident exploring new possibilities. Through this collaborative introduction, participants understood the importance of communication, teamwork, and clear planning when turning an idea into a small business.

As the session continued, participants were guided through common challenges faced when launching a startup such as identifying a market, understanding customer needs, managing risks, and estimating costs. Facilitators helped them explore practical strategies like validating demand, improving ideas, and planning realistic steps that can lead to early entrepreneurial success.

Participants also learned about key characteristics of successful startups, including innovation, scalability, problem-solving, and adaptability. They explored real-world startup examples and discussed how similar ideas could be implemented within their own communities.

A highlight of the session was when participants confidently stood up to share startup ideas they hoped to develop. This moment created an energetic, inspiring atmosphere filled with curiosity and collaboration, demonstrating strong engagement and a willingness to learn.

Overall, the session encouraged participants to see themselves as capable beginners who can develop practical startup ideas and take confident steps toward entrepreneurial goals. It successfully supported the GEW 2025 mission of building innovation, awareness, and entrepreneurial thinking among new learners.
