#GEW2017 will be held between November 13-19, 2017.

For many Australians the phrase 'the lucky country' has a particular resonance. Donald Horne's famous words have been used in numerous ways to describe everything that is great about our nation.

The phrase has been used to describe our weather, our lifestyle and our history. It is often invoked to describe the nation's good fortune, from gold booms to economic booms. Recently, our geographic isolation from the world's trouble spots has again seen us labelled the lucky country. It has been paraphrased by politicians - 'the clever country' - and when Kylie Minogue sings we're 'lucky, lucky, lucky', we all know what she means.

Global Entrepreneurship Network - Australia

GEW AU is a national movement that seeks to inspire more Australians from all walks of life to explore their potential to start and grow new businesses – providing new entrants to our global emerging start-up ecosystems.

Through a collection of programs and research work, Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) works throughout the year to support entrepreneurs and create environments that enable them to thrive. Its largest and most visible program is Global Entrepreneurship Week, when over 10 million people in 170+ countries participate in nearly 35,000 events, activities and competitions.

GEN is looking to strengthen the Global Entrepreneurship Week community within the Australia. Our Community Builder reports directly to the executives of the organization in the US and is responsible for leading the GEW campaign in Australia by: maintaining existing relationships; identifying, initiating and nurturing new partnerships throughout Australia; and increasing their level of engagement in Global Entrepreneurship Week events and activities.

The Community Builder has experience and familiarity with the start-up space and entrepreneurial ecosystems; enjoys talking to people in person, by phone, and through social media; sees opportunities where others see obstacles.

Outcomes:

  • Drive GEW AU partnership recruitment – invite, welcome and engage new partners
  • Networking and maintaining active, ongoing relationships with partners and find creative ways to increase partner engagement throughout Australia – among all parts of the entrepreneurship ecosystem
  • Identify the most promising GEW AU events and secure their status as featured events
  • Manage local / regional committees throughout Australia to coordinate, plan and promote model Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrations
  • Oversee organization’s effort to connect emerging AU ecosystems with complementary ecosystems in other parts of the world
  • Measure and analyze performance of partners and communicate results and success stories to the marketing / communications team
  • Help raise awareness of partner events and ecosystem activity through GEW US digital channels
  • Serve as a liaison with the global community of GEW hosts – sharing the AU experience and incorporating new ideas tested with other similar campaigns

    What is Entrepreneurship?

Entrepreneurship is both the study of how new businesses are created as well as the actual process of starting a new business – the term is used interchangeably.

An entrepreneur is someone who has an idea and who works to create a product or service that people will buy, by building an organisation to support those sales.

Entrepreneurship is now a popular college major for all who are looking to start a business large or small.

Having been invited by GEN Thailand and the Thailand Government to attend Digital Big Bang 2017 and to become a part of Thailand’s Entrepreneurship System via GEN Asia I am now in the process of documenting the Australian Entrepreneurship Ecosystem with the outcome to be the formation of an Independent non-profit organisation overseen by a strong Governing Board of Directors focused on outcomes and to become a Country Partner of Gen Global.
Once the Board is operational, Gen Global will appoint the first GEN AU Managing Director to be confirmed by the board within 24 months of operations.
