Acting Managing Director Works to Strengthen International Connections in Azerbaijan

WASHINGTON, DCSeymur Hüseynov, the acting managing director of the Global Entrepreneurship Network affiliate organization in Azerbaijan, has been working to expand collaboration among the country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem leaders and connect them to their counterparts in more than 170 countries. He was appointed by GEN to guide the development of GEN Azerbaijan, and Hüseynov has engaged various stakeholders in the community to support entrepreneurs in the country.

“Azerbaijan, though small in size, has enormous economic potential,” said Hüseynov. “The country has managed to maintain its economic sustainability and ensured economic stability in the last years. The drastic and comprehensive economic reforms carried out this year have opened up great horizons and prospects for our future development.”

Hüseynov said that despite many difficulties, Azerbaijan’s non-oil industry has grown by 7 percent in the last year, and has made progress in safeguarding currency reserves. It’s an important issue, he said, because “economic potential and financial resources of our country precondition both economic and political independence.”

“We believe that GEN Azerbaijan will be able to use high economic potential of the country to help further develop the national startup ecosystem through alignment of different stakeholders, educating and mentoring young people as well as celebrating entrepreneurship all over the country.”

At the global level, GEN operates in more than 170 countries. It fuels healthier start and scale ecosystems by fostering deeper cross-border collaboration and initiatives that engage entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers and entrepreneurship support organizations.

GEN Azerbaijan aims to strengthen the ecosystem by focusing on three main priorities:

  1. Working to improve the country’s startup and entrepreneurship support ecosystem;
  2. Increasing economic knowledge of young people and promoting entrepreneurship among the demographic; and
  3. Encouraging, educating and mentoring new entrepreneurs who are starting a new business.
