Growing up in rural Bangladesh, climate change was not a distant concept—it was daily reality. From witnessing crop failure to observing the impact on rural livelihoods, Abdullah turned these challenges into motivation. With a background in engineering and a deep sense of social responsibility, he began building solutions that fuse renewable energy, smart agriculture, and digital innovation.
Matir Praan: Soil Testing for Small Farmers
One of EcoTech’s first products, Matir Praan, is a low-cost, mobile-linked soil testing device that helps small-scale farmers understand their soil’s health—offering real-time data on pH, moisture, and nutrients. This leads to better farming decisions, reduced chemical use, and higher yields.
BD Highway Turbine: Wind Power from Roadsides
Abdullah’s ambition for sustainability evolved with the BD Highway Turbine—a smart Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) designed to harness wind energy from highways and coastal areas. With low land requirements and affordable setup costs, these turbines offer a new way to solve Bangladesh’s energy crisis while cutting emissions.
His work didn’t go unnoticed. Abdullah was awarded special grants and fellowships by the Bangladesh ICT Division, recognizing his efforts in advancing research in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector. These funds provided crucial support for developing scalable prototypes and pushing forward his climate-tech agenda.
In 2022, Abdullah’s commitment to climate action was internationally acknowledged when he received funding from UNICEF Generation Unlimited's imaGen Ventures Youth Challenge, aimed at addressing climate change through youth-led innovations. The support enabled EcoTech Innovation to refine its technologies and amplify outreach in vulnerable rural communities.
His passion for sustainable agriculture also led him to receive innovation funding from the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI)—allowing for collaboration with national experts in soil science and agroecology to pilot solutions in real farming environments.
Abdullah’s start-up journey took a leap when he secured start-up seed funding from Orange Corners Bangladesh. With this boost, EcoTech Innovation began deploying Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT), branded as BD Highway Turbine, to turn highways and coastal zones into clean energy hubs—aligning with Bangladesh’s renewable energy ambitions.
Globally, Abdullah’s leadership and solutions gained attention when he represented Bangladesh at the World Youth Festival 2024 in Sochi, Russia, participating in the International Youth Startup Exhibition organized by the Club of Young Industrialists and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia. His presence at this global event solidified his role as an international youth innovator bridging grassroots innovation with global platforms.
In 2024, Abdullah’s company qualified for the EWC National Final in Bangladesh and advanced to the EWC 250 Group Stage, showcasing his work among the world’s most promising startups.
His journey is further adorned by early recognition from the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2020–21, a prestigious platform celebrating excellence in tech entrepreneurship.
