Dhaka, Bangladesh – June 11, 2024 – GEN Bangladesh celebrate the "Speed Networking Event for Aspiring Entrepreneurs", hosted by Global Entrepreneurship Network- Bangladesh, in collaboration with Daffodil Polytechnic Institute, Daffodil International Professional Training Institute (DIPTI), KnowledgeVale - Incubation Centre, Bangladesh Venture Capital Limited, and the Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Daffodil International University.

At GEN Bangladesh, we believe this event is not just about networking. It’s a pivotal moment in our collective journey towards creating a robust and vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bangladesh. Our primary goal is to empower and support entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey, fostering an environment where innovation and business can thrive.
 

The event kicked off with an inspiring opening speech by K M HASAN RIPON, Managing Director of GEN Bangladesh, who emphasized the critical role of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and innovation.

The first panel discussion, "Access to Finance: Key to Economic Growth and Development," featured notable speakers:

  • SHAWKAT HOSSAIN, CEO of Bangladesh Venture Capital Ltd, highlighted the importance of venture capital in scaling startups. He remarked, "Securing the right funding is crucial for startups to turn their innovative ideas into reality. We are committed to bridging the gap between entrepreneurs and investors."
  • Mohammad Jahid Iqbal, Joint Director of SME & Special Programmes at Bangladesh Bank, discussed various financial programs supporting SMEs. He stated, "Our financial initiatives are designed to empower SMEs with the necessary resources to thrive in a competitive market."
  • Md. Kamrul Islam, also a Joint Director at Bangladesh Bank, spoke about new financial instruments available for entrepreneurs. He added, "Innovative financial solutions are key to addressing the unique challenges faced by startups today."

Md. Kamruzzaman, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at DIU, expertly moderated the panel, facilitating a lively and informative discussion.

The second panel, "Connecting Dots: Strengthening Entrepreneurial Market Linkages," brought together experts to explore strategies for improving market access for entrepreneurs:

  • ABDUL WADUD, Director of the Industry Innovation Center, spoke on fostering industry-academic collaborations. He noted, "Collaboration between industry and academia can drive innovation and create a strong support network for entrepreneurs."
  • SAMIHA KHAN, Co-founder of Knowledgevale, shared insights on leveraging knowledge networks for business growth. She commented, "Knowledge sharing is fundamental to entrepreneurial success. By connecting entrepreneurs with the right information and expertise, we can accelerate their growth."
  • AMENA HASAN ANA, Deputy Director at DIU, discussed the role of educational institutions in supporting startups. She emphasized, "Educational institutions play a pivotal role in nurturing entrepreneurial talent and providing a foundation for future business leaders."
  • RATHINDRA NATH DAS, Executive Director of DIPTI, emphasized the need for robust support systems for entrepreneurs. He mentioned, "A strong support system is essential for entrepreneurs to overcome challenges and seize opportunities in the market."

This session was also moderated by Md. Kamruzzaman, who ensured that the discussions remained focused and beneficial for the attendees.

Individual speeches were delivered by distinguished guests, each bringing a unique perspective:

  • Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman, Director of SME & Special Programmes at Bangladesh Bank, remarked, "Access to finance is the lifeblood of entrepreneurial ventures. Our goal is to create a supportive financial ecosystem for all aspiring entrepreneurs."
  • BIKARNA KUMAR GHOSH, CEO of FBCCI Innovation & Research Center, stated, "Innovation is the key to sustainable business growth. We are committed to nurturing a culture of innovation among our entrepreneurs."
  • JOSEPH GIBLIN, Chief of the Economic Unit at the U.S. Embassy, expressed, "Entrepreneurship is a global language. We are excited to see the dynamism of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and their potential to contribute to global markets."
     

The event concluded with closing remarks from DR. MOHAMMAD NURUZZAMAN, CEO of Daffodil Family, who underscored the importance of continuous learning and adaptation in the entrepreneurial journey.
