DIRECTOR FOR GLOBAL COMMUNITY

GEN’s Community Builder of National Leaders 

The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) is seeking a Director for Global Community to coordinate and support those individuals advancing GEN’s objectives in nations across the world.  The position is an external facing one for which success is dependent on exceptional communications and community management skills at scale. 

Working to build one global entrepreneurial ecosystem, GEN operates a platform of projects and programs in 200 countries aimed at making it easier for anyone, anywhere to start and scale a company. By fostering deeper cross-border collaboration and initiatives between entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, policymakers and entrepreneurial support organizations, GEN works to fuel healthier start and scale ecosystems that create more jobs, educate individuals, accelerate innovation and strengthen economic growth. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Scouting for and recruiting promising GEN Affiliate leadership using GEN’s brand presence around the world. 

  • Connecting management teams to their training and management process and portal – and help enforce adherence to GEN standards. 

  • Ensuring the GEW Host, EWC organizer or GEN Managing Director (GEN MD) are recruiting a delegation from their nation to the GEC each March. 

  • Supporting the planning of the GEN Annual Meeting and its GEN Affiliate sessions at the GEC and co-lead the GEW Summit in partnership with the communications team 

  • Working alongside the Director for the EWC in identifying and recruiting national organizers for the EWC leveraging parallel efforts for GEW and GEN Affiliate outreach. 

  • Identifying and evaluating finalists for relevant MD and GEW recognition at the GEN Compass Awards. 

  • Ensuring all GEN MDs and GEW Host organizations are connected to information about GEN’s programs such as Startup Huddle, EWC, GEN Accelerates and GEN Starters Club, GEN Invest + the Global Business Angels Network (GBAN), GEN Research, GEN Policy, GEN Atlas, GEN Speakers Bureau and other GEN offerings. 

  • Managing a global community of national managers of GEN affiliates and 2 flagship programs - Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) and the Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) - using Hubspot, Slack, and other tools to keep all nations engaged and expanding the GEN brand in their markets. 

  • Assisting Vice President in tracking GEN Affiliate and Managing Director outputs and KPIs.  

  • Actively managing an existing community of national organizations that Host GEW each November, maintaining MOU agreements, monitoring GEW Host compliance with agreed upon.   

  • Replacing Hosts that do not meet expectations with help from the existing GEN leadership in that country. 

  • Organizing Global GEW office hours and training sessions with GEN Global management virtually throughout the year and live at the Global Entrepreneurship Congress. 

 

Required Skills + Qualifications:  

  • Outgoing, high energy and confident with a positive attitude and exceptional presentation and communication skills. 

  • Experience and knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, their cultures and communities. 

  • Nimble research skills to quickly identify the leading startup community leaders and organizations in any given economy and map out an approach to engage them. 

  • Fluent in English with excellent business writing skills suitable for a more formal business culture. 

  • Tech savvy comfortable with the new normal of a predominantly virtual workplace. 

  • Flexible team player – able to work in an environment with overlapping program areas and staff responsibilities.   

  • A commitment to the values, mission, model and work of the Global Entrepreneurship Network with a firm belief in the opportunity being presented by GEN Global to a team of cofounders starting up or building a GEN Affiliate. 

 

Preference will be given for: 

  • Sales experience 

  • Additional foreign language skills 

  • Knowledge of Dropbox, Slack, Hubspot and Asana 

  • Other multi-national experience 

 

The position is supported by various platforms and a long history of projects, partnerships, relationships and talent.  While the position reports to a Vice President, the Director works closely with the founder and President of GEN who is actively involved in coaching and mentoring GEN’s national leaders across the world.  The role is open to individuals located both within and outside the United States.
