Barrier Breaker Award Criteria

The Compass Award for Barrier Breakers recognizes the member of the Global Entrepreneurship Network who has demonstrated the greatest commitment and achievement in breaking down persistent and systemic obstacles--creating pathways to entrepreneurship that empower non-traditional audiences and under-represented communities.

The following factors are considered in the selection of the award winner (in no particular order):

• Impact uplifting entrepreneurs in marginalized communities including those discriminated against due to their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality or any other factor
• Impact helping entrepreneurs to overcome skill deficiencies through training and mentorship programs
• Impact increasing access to technologies and closing the digital divide for entrepreneurs
• Resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges
• Positive stewardship of the GEN brand
