The Amhara Regional Bureau of Labor and Training (BoLT) promises to minimize bureaucratic hurdles in the journey of MSEs

On November 22, 2024, the Amhara Regional Bureau of Labor and Training (BoLT) held a preliminary discussion in Dessie, Ethiopia, with zonal and city-level one-stop service experts. The meeting focused on organizing a mass formalization event for 1,500 micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in a single day. Scheduled for December 31, 2024, this initiative aims to motivate youth and women to start businesses with formally registered licenses while minimizing bureaucratic hurdles. The effort is part of a broader strategy to foster a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region.

The mass formalization campaign seeks to inspire other potential entrepreneurs by demonstrating a supportive environment for startups and existing MSEs. Formalizing these businesses will provide participants with legal recognition, access to financial services, and improved market opportunities—key factors for long-term growth and sustainability.

The initiative is expected to have a profound socioeconomic impact, particularly for youth and women, as it aims to create at least 3,000 new jobs. This will promote economic empowerment, reduce unemployment, and enhance livelihoods in the region.
