GEN in Ethiopia

The Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) began its work in Ethiopia in 2011, when the country joined Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) for the first time. That inaugural campaign was led by Empact Capital and reached 1,200 participants through 13 activities organized with 12 partners. The arrival of GEW resonated quickly at the highest levels of government – then-President Girma Wolde-Giorgis welcomed the celebration, noting that entrepreneurship could serve not only as a path to self-employment and financial independence but also as a vehicle for job creation and the country’s broader economic transformation.

GLOBAL SPOTLIGHT

Entrepreneurs Thrive Here: Global Entrepreneurship Week 2026

Millions of people around the world have the ideas, talent, and ambition to build something better for themselves and their communities — but have never seen entrepreneurship as a path available to them. Global Entrepreneurship Week, taking place November 16-22, 2026, changes that. This campaign meets people where they are and connects them to the networks, tools, and support to take that first step — showing what’s possible in their own communities.
