EDI Champions Inclusiveness: Daycare Centers to Boost Female Entrepreneurship in Tigray

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) - Tigray Regional office is making strides towards greater inclusiveness in its programs. This innovative approach follows a visit by Dr. Hassan Hussen, CEO of EDI-Ethiopia, to training venues in Mekelle and Abi Adi, Tigray.
During the visit, Dr. Hussen noticed a significant number of female participants juggling childcare responsibilities with their entrepreneurial aspirations. Many brought their children to training sessions due to a lack of readily available childcare options.
Inspired by this observation Dr Hassen initiated a groundbreaking initiative: establishing daycare centers at training venues in Mekelle and ABI Adi at first and Maichew, MEKONI and Adigudom later. This allows mothers to participate in entrepreneurship training programs without the burden of childcare concerns.
The initiative coincides with the Global Entrepreneurship Week #GEW2024E theme, which focuses on diversity and inclusion. The daycare centers have proven to be a resounding success, with a significant rise in female participation and engagement in training programs across these locations.
This initiative empowers mothers to actively pursue their entrepreneurial dreams by removing a major barrier.
EDI's commitment to inclusiveness is paving the way for a more vibrant and diverse entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tigray.

With mothers now able to fully participate in training programs, the region can expect to see a surge in female-led businesses in the near future.
