Tigray Launches GEW 2025 with Inclusive Entrepreneurship Training

Mekelle, Ethiopia – The Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW 2025) officially kicked off in the Tigray region with the launch of a highly anticipated four-day training program on Entrepreneurship and Business Management Skills (EBMS) in Mekelle City. The launch not only marks the start of the regional GEW celebrations but also strongly emphasizes inclusive development by ensuring opportunities for all aspiring entrepreneurs. Following a highly competitive selection process, which saw a surge of applications, particularly from motivated youth, 200 participants were ultimately selected. To maintain a focused and personalized learning environment, the trainees were divided into five distinct training sessions. Emphasizing Inclusivity: 'Together we Build' in Practice; a standout feature of this year's launch is the dedicated focus on inclusivity. Notably, one of the training groups is specifically composed of hearing-impaired trainees, fully supported by a dedicated sign language translator. This crucial measure ensures that the vital Entrepreneurship and Business Management Skills —covering business planning, innovation, financial literacy, and enterprise sustainability—are accessible to all participants, regardless of physical ability. This move underscores the core spirit of GEW: that entrepreneurship is a path open to everyone, thereby actively practicing the year's motto.  The opening ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including Mr. Alem Aregawi from the Regional TVET and Job Creation Bureau and Mr. Dagmawi Yohannes, Regional Coordinator of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI Tigray), and. Both officials delivered inspiring remarks, highlighting the critical role of entrepreneurship in stimulating innovation, creating essential employment opportunities, and accelerating regional post-conflict economic recovery. The Entrepreneurship and Business Management Skills training program itself is designed with a participatory and practical approach. Facilitators are encouraging active interaction and collaboration, ensuring trainees develop hands-on skills that are directly applicable to solving real-world business challenges. This inclusive Entrepreneurship and Business Management Skills training successfully sets a vibrant and meaningful tone for GEW 2025 in Tigray. The Regional Organizing Committee, in collaboration with the TVET and Job Creation Bureau of Tigray and EDI Tigray, reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to empowering youth and People with Disabilities (PWD). By fostering innovation and self-employment, they aim to drive sustainable and equitable development across the region
