Tigray Ramps Up for GEW-2025: Media and Public Relations Experts Pledge Support to Boost Entrepreneurship

MEKELE, TIGRAY � In a critical pre-event push for Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW-2025), the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) Tigray secured a strong commitment from the region�s media outlets to widely promote entrepreneurship. EDI-Ethiopia, Tigray Regional Office convened a media briefing, attended by over 50 media professionals and officials from the Regional TVET and Job Creation Bureau. The primary goal was to align partners and leverage the media's crucial influence to expand the reach and impact of EDI's entrepreneurship development programs across the region during the GEW-2025 celebration and beyond. The event also saw the attendance of successful EDI Alumni. Gebrecherkos Yonannes, out come based directorate director representing the regional TVET and Job Creation Bureau has explained that as a region we have to be wise in addressing our challenges by using entrepreneurship and Innovation. EDI's Regional Coordinator, Ato Dagimawi Yohannes, underscored the indispensable role of the media in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, building on past achievements. He specifically noted EDI Ethiopia's exceptional performance in last year's GEW events, which ranked 8th worldwide, and committed to striving to be among the top 3 worldwide in 2025. The briefing also highlighted strong collaboration between the government and stakeholders. As part of the regional preparations for GEW-2025, a regional celebration committee has been formed. Its members include the regional TVET and Job Creation Bureau, Bureau of Youth Affairs, Bureau of Women Affairs, and Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Associations. This committee is planning joint initiatives designed to significantly boost awareness on job creation and reduce outward migration in the region. The event featured a presentation on EDI, its core mandate, and its overall achievements so far in alignment with GEW celebrations. Haftu Haile from EDI emphasized that this is an opportunity to cultivate an entrepreneurship culture. In a separate presentation, Shishay Equar, Mekele University American Corner Coordinator and a Lecturer of Media and Communication, addressed the media's role in promoting entrepreneurship. The power of EDI�s training and Business Development Services (BDS) programs was vividly demonstrated through success stories shared by young entrepreneurs, Kidane and Mulu, who offered inspiring testimonies on how EDI's life-changing programs helped them successfully grow their businesses. The proactive engagement culminated in a major success, as the attending journalists and media houses expressed a full and strong commitment to promoting the work of EDI and its partners' GEW celebrations to the public. This unified effort sets the stage for a highly impactful Global Entrepreneurship Week, with all partners focused on cultivating a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tigray and supporting the next generation of business leaders.
