#GEW2024 Inaugurates Entrepreneurial Spirit in Abi Adi-Tigray
The Global Entrepreneurship Week 2024 (GEW-2024) commenced in Abi Adi with an inaugural ceremony that marked the beginning of a transformative journey for youth and IDPs. Hosted by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), the event brought together a diverse group of trainees, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) and youth, to empower them with essential business skills.
Mr. Mussie, the EDI Zonal Coordinator, highlighted the unique opportunity for trainees to leverage the GEW platform to launch or grow their businesses. He emphasized EDI’s decade-long commitment to empowering individuals and communities through training and support services. Mr. Fisseha Gidey, Dean of Aby Adi Polytechnic College, shared his institution’s positive experience with EDI’s training programs and expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided to IDPs in the region. Mr. Tesfamariam, Western Zone IDP Coordinator, lauded the resilience and work ethic of the Western Region’s population and encouraged trainees to make the most of the training to improve their lives.
As a symbolic gesture, a traditional ‘Hibshti’ (traditional bread) was cut by representatives of the trainees, celebrating GEW-2024 with the motto of “Entrepreneurship is for All.” Following the inaugural ceremony, two-day training sessions for 100 women IDPs and four-day training sessions for 200 youth from the city were started. These training sessions will equip participants with practical skills in business planning, financial management, marketing, and other relevant areas.
During the training, Dr. Hassen Hussen, EDI Ethiopia CEO, and Mr. Dagmawi Yohannes, EDI Tigray Regional Coordinator, visited the training sessions, offered encouraging suggestions to the trainees, and pledged continued support and monitoring.
By fostering entrepreneurial spirit and providing essential resources, GEW-2024 aims to contribute to the economic recovery of the region and create sustainable livelihoods for its people.
